HOPEFULLY FOOTBALL PLAYERS DID NOT WATCH YESTERDAY’S TALK SHOW

The fuss about the football match Armenia vs. Turkey is natural. It would be strange if everyone were calm. However, another thing is surprising and queer, another situation in which both the society and separate people such as the intelligentsia, reporters, actors, composers, politicians and performers have appeared, who have been willing to explain something to that society for several days now but apparently they do are not quite aware of what they want to explain to the society. On September 3, for instance, the Public Television showed a recurrent talk show about the upcoming football match Armenia vs. Turkey. The aim of the talk show was not so clear. If the purpose was the show, the show was bad, and there was nothing dazzling or simply impressive, neither in terms of events, actions, nor in terms of the visual image. Even the uniform of the Armenian national team that the host wore and some members of the fan club made no change in terms of the show because it is usual when someone wears the uniform of their own national team. If the aim of the show was the talk, this aim was not fulfilled either because the axis, aim, meaning, problem of the talk was not clear. There was a mere exchange of ideas the summary of which is that our national team is strong, very strong, we cannot imagine how strong it is, we will see that it is strong. Naturally, since the participants of the show think our team is strong, very strong, we cannot imagine how strong it is, we will see how strong it is, it goes without saying that all the participants thought that our team is going to win. It is certainly clear that we all have such a wish, although when one sees how our unachieved victory is drowned, the wish for any success merely vanishes because there is a mass ready to use any success for their personal interests, seizing the success from all in a couple of seconds and imposing their own self on all. In any case, however, everyone wishes that the team of Armenia defeated Turkey and not only Turkey but generally all the opponents and have great success, even if later some turn that success into a tool for personal and group interests. But is it worthwhile to hold a talk show only for a group of people to express their wish to win Does the Armenian viewer, the Armenian football fan, besides lectures to behave well, and often from people who certainly need some advice on their own behavior, have no right to listen to coherent, professional, argumentative speech before the interesting match Armenia vs. Turkey? In addition, those comments could be not only on football or sports but also political, as well as cultural, also psychological because today football is everything, life, as the famous Russian TV host Savik Shuster would say, who is in Ukraine now. What are those people who repeated with wide open eyes and clutched fists that we will win going to do if suddenly the Armenian team loses the match? After all, it is football which is rather unpredictable, if anyone has not taken care about its predictability beforehand. After all, our team is going to play with a rather strong team which was equal to the German team and lost at the last moment only in the semi-final. Certainly, it does not mean that Armenia cannot defeat Turkey. Certainly it can. How can that victory be achieved? Perhaps through hard work, integrity and devotion, the desire to go all the way to struggle, because both the experience and level of the Turkish team seems better than those of the Armenian team. On TV, however, nobody tries to make professional judgments. When ordinary football fans get excited, it is understood, but it is not understood when people become overwhelmed with emotions who are supposed to do the contrary, that is shift public emotions into a conscious direction, turn them rational. It is easy to sit in front of TV cameras, have a glance at the president of the football federation Ruben Hairapetyan sitting in the studio from time to time to check his reaction and repeat incessantly that we are strong, we will win, we are strong, we will win, until they make sure that Hairapetyan heard and noticed who said that. Meanwhile, that does not require responsibility from those who say that. They will say and leave, and if the national team wins, they will go to TV studios one by one and remind how they said that we were strong and we would win. If the team loses, everyone will mind their own business, until the next game with Turkey a year later, and they will again meet at the studio and this time they will call for revenge, noting that we were strong, we lost but you’ll see what we are going to do in Turkey. And so on, and the only ray of hope is that the coach of the Armenian team Paulsen has not included talk shows on TV in the daily preparations for the march. Not watching them will raise the effectiveness of preparations of our team. HAKOB BADALYAN
