WHAT RUSSIA PROMISED TO SERGE SARGSYAN
The Russian media report that Moscow is making diplomatic efforts to win over the support of the CSTO members. In particular, Russia is trying to have the CSTO members recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and adopt a tough anti-West resolution, particularly regarding the advancing of NATO towards the borders of the member states. The Russian media note that Moscow is working with the leaders of the allies separately, trying to get them interested. In particular, it has promised a 2 billion dollar long-term loan and a cut in the price of gas to Belarus, and the layout of a new gas pipeline in Uzbekistan. The media also touched upon the meeting of Serge Sargsyan and Medvedev in Sochi on the eve. The role of Armenia in this stage is very serious because Yerevan is about to take up the CSTO chairmanship, and Moscow’s interest in the stance of Armenia is natural. However, the Russian media do not mention what the presidents discussed, and what was promised to Serge Sargsyan in return for support. They only report that Serge Sargsyan voiced regret about the recent events.
