SHANT HARUTIUNYAN GOES ON HUNGER PROTEST
Shant Harutiunyan, who was arrested for addressing the people gathered in front of the statue of Miasnikyan on March 1 and sent to the prison of Vardashen, went on hunger protest on September 2. Shant Harutiunyan also made a statement that his arrest was the order of the Russian special services for his political views, and the Armenian humble government, willing to carry out Moscow’s order and having no grounds for accusations, defined his address on March 1 stemming from his political beliefs as a crime. Shant Harutiunyan states that since his speech on that day was not an offense, Moscow’s marionettes distorted his speech and ascribed statements to him which he did not utter. “In the present situation when there is no Constitutional order and legitimate government in Armenia, for defining my status of prisoner, I do not appeal to the government of Armenia but to the political prisoners of the era of the Soviet empire. I urge all those former Soviet political prisoners who publicly expressed opinions and made judgments on the events of March 1 to publicly recognize that I am a political prisoner, and I go on hunger protest to support my demand. As to the Russian special services which attentively track each of my anti-Kremlin statement and respond quickly, I warn that great trouble is awaiting you in my upcoming trial. P.S.: I address personally Paruir Hairikyan and Razmik Zohrabyan who have spoken about the events of March 1, and then all the others. At one time you went on hunger protest in Soviet prisons to be recognized as political prisoners. The bastard bolshevists and tchekists did not carry out your claim. Now I want to see how you differ from them,” Shant Harutiunyan’s statement holds.
