LEVON TER-PETROSYAN REVEALS THREE MORE DOCUMENTS
- On September 2 the first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan held a news conference and revealed three documents which, according to Levon Ter-Petrosyan, are evidence to the monstrous crimes of the present government which it commits against the society and the state, as well as indicate the level of the spheres of law enforcement and justice. The first document which Levon Ter-Petrosyan revealed was the warrant of the judge of the general jurisdiction court of Center and Nork Marash communities Jora Vardanyan, issued on February 19, the day of the presidential vote, to wiretap the telephone, track the e-mailbox of the head of the presidential candidate Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s election office Alexander Arzumanyan and take him under surveillance. By Jora Vardanyan’s warrant, the pre-election activities of Levon Ter-Petrosyan were actually under the control of the government. In this connection Levon Ter-Petrosyan says he has every reason to state that all the members of the election office were wiretapped, and Alik Arzumanyan’s telephone had been wiretapped even before the warrant of the court because the National Security Service fixed some telephone numbers which Arzumanyan used, and which was impossible without wiretapping. Describing the warrant of the judge as a violation of the Constitution and legislation of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan compared this case with the Watergate scandal in 1972 in the United States when it became known that President Nixon had instructed to wiretap the telephones of his opponent’s election office. Afterwards Nixon resigned. Levon Ter-Petrosyan said maybe the countries and the situations were different but the comparison is pertinent since the phenomenon is meant. According to Ter-Petrosyan, it is interesting how the head of the OSCE observation mission Gerdt Ahrens would have evaluated the election if he had learned about this case of wiretapping. Similarly, Levon Ter-Petrosyan said it is interesting what decision the Constitutional Court would have passed if it had learned that Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s election office was wiretapped. For Ahrens, Ter-Petrosyan says it would be logical if on learning this Ahrens tore to pieces his evaluation of the Armenian presidential election. The next document that Levon Ter-Petrosyan presented was the March 1 decision of the senior detective of the Special Investigation Service Vahagn Harutiunyan regarding the police action on Freedom square on the same morning. Levon Ter-Petrosyan highlights two important things about that decision. According to him, it is mentioned in Vahagn Harutiunyan’s decision that the police action on Freedom Square started at 6 am. Levon Ter-Petrosyan said it is recorded in the decision of the detective of the Special Investigation Service, which is a highly important document, therefore the police chiefs who reported to the committee for March 1 that the police action started at 7 am lied, and they should be brought before justice for lying. Besides, Vahagn Harutiunyan’s decision states that the police went to Freedom Square in the morning to stop the unauthorized demonstration. Levon Ter-Petrosyan draws attention to the controversy between the decision of the detective and the version later set forward by the police because the police stated later that the police went to Freedom Square for a check. Levon Ter-Petrosyan thinks the government “invented” the version of examination later when it managed to plant weapons in bushes later to accuse the opposition. The third document, according to Levon Ter-Petrosyan, which he revealed during the news conference first does not appear to be related to the present situation and problems because it is the response of the republic bureau of addresses to the inquiry of a college of advocates regarding the reference on the place of residence of Robert Kocharyan which he submitted in 1998 on his nomination as a presidential candidate. The republic bureau of addresses noted in answer to that reference that no person named Robert Sedrak Kocharyan was registered at the address mentioned as the place of registration of Robert Kocharyan in Yerevan. Levon Ter-Petrosyan said he got that document of 1998 three days ago and seems to have nothing to do with the current reality, it is a past stage, but as soon as we arrange the events of 1998 and 2008 on the trajectory of the level of legal consciousness of the government, we notice that the government in Armenia continues transgression regarding the society. As to the documents, Levon Ter-Petrosyan finds it difficult to make forecasts on their effect but notes that the revelation of those documents in a normal country would be a major scandal, and the government would have to resign. Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s team is going to present those documents to the international organizations. The first president says such documents produce immense impression on the representatives of international organizations because during their meetings they only listen to the opinions of the government and the opposition.
