MIXED LOCAL ELECTIONS WITH PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

Zoya Tadevosyan who is running in the local election in Arabkir community, Yerevan on September 7 stands a good chance to win, thinks the secretary of the Heritage faction of the parliament Stepan Safaryan who was hosted at the Friday Club on September 1 together with the candidate Zoya Tadevosyan. Stepan Safaryan says evidence to the possibility to win is that the Heritage Party was the first in Arabkir in the parliamentary election. Besides, the residents of the community receive Zoya Tadevosyan with great enthusiasm, participate in her spontaneous meetings, tens of people gather within 15-20 minutes to listen to her. Stepan Safaryan and Zoya Tadevosyan say the residents of a lot of quarters of Arabkir are offended that no meetings take place with them and ask to visit them as well. Stepan Safaryan and Zoya Tadevosyan also thanked the Armenian National Congress for support. Safaryan says this supports comes not only in the form of a statement but the actions of the activists of the congress. Afterwards Tadevosyan and Safaryan spoke about the activities of her opponents, the businessman Albert Yeritsyan and the incumbent candidate Hovik Shahinyan. Zoya Tadevosyan especially complains of Albert Yeritsyan’s behavior, who breaches the Election Code. In particular, Zoya Tadevosyan says Albert Yeritsyan gives election bribes, and makes lists of so-called supporters on which passport information and signatures of voters are collected, and those voters are told to vote for Albert Yeritsyan, otherwise they will be brought before court. Zoya Tadevosyan also says rumors are spread to put psychological pressure on the voters. Allegedly, “if such a list of 30 thousand supporters is submitted to Serge Sargsyan, Albert Yeritsyan will get his approval.” Tadevosyan wonders how a voter can believe in such lies. Showing the election booklets of Albert Yeritsyan, Stepan Safaryan says they also breach the law since they contain no information about the publisher, the number of copies, which allows Safaryan to suppose that slush funds are spent on his election campaign. Besides, Zoya Tadevosyan says Albert Yeritsyan’s ads are posted all over Yerevan, including the road to the airport. “Perhaps he has mixed the local election with the presidential election,” Zoya Tadevosyan says about her opponent. For her other opponent Hovik Shahinyan, Tadevosyan says in the beginning his behavior was balanced but the accusation regarding election booklets applies to him as well. Zoya Tadevosyan again mentioned the decision to pay the resident’s debts of property tax and land tax, which Tadevosyan thinks is election bribe. A few days ago Hovik Shahinyan stated in a news conference that it is the former fee to the housing boards, to which the statute of limitation is applicable. Zoya Tadevosyan also says that her opponents are preparing for vote tampering on the voting day but the candidate of the Heritage Party warns that they are not going to be indifferent and will prevent election fraud. They do not reveal how but they assure that they have the means. Zoya Tadevosyan only says that they will report cases of fraud to the office of prosecutor general and let the fraud waste their time after the elections on frequent visits to the office of prosecutor general.
