A WAY WHICH SEEMS USELESS BUT TAKES THERE FASTER

For already two days the police crack down on the participants of the sit-down protest on North Avenue. No doubt, the government is aware of that and most probably has instructed that. However, the policy of the government to use force is a little illogical, considering that the report on Armenia will be presented to the PACE monitoring committee in about two weeks. Does the government expect that the international focus on the developments in Georgia will weaken focus on Armenia, and the international community will fail to notice or will have no time to notice the resumed repression against peaceful protestors? The representative of the Popular Movement Levon Zurabyan who was hosted at the Hayatsk press club on August 26 agreed to this, noting that the government may count on that the international community focuses on Georgia to resume encroachments on democracy in Armenia. According to Levon Zurabyan, time will show whether the calculations of the government are justified. He thinks it is important to realize that the struggle for democracy in Armenia should not be determined by the international focus. According to him, the international focus is helpful, of course, but nobody will struggle for our democracy except for us. Levon Zurabyan thinks that even in the case when the international focus is on our problems, struggle should not be determined by that attention. The regime takes forcible steps, there may be a retreat but in any case the popular movement must be stable, steady, consistent, resolved, Levon Zurabyan says, and adds that the movement is such, steady and solid, and struggle is continuous. He also noted that they will not do the government the “favor” of setting force against force. Levon Zurabyan says using force to struggle against tyranny is meaningless because this is what the government desires to get the situation it wants. Levon Zurabyan says the Constitutional way, the Constitutional means of struggle are thought as useless by many but in reality this way, these means take to the goal faster.
