ARMENIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS STATEMENT ON FUEL CRISIS IN ARMENIA

The Armenian National Congress states that the short-lasting Georgian-South Ossetian military conflict revealed the traits of the illegitimate regime, passiveness, helplessness and indifference towards the country and people, and twenty days after the beginning of the conflict its consequences continue to affect the economy of Armenia. Recently a serious economic crisis has occurred in the republic. The reserves of liquid fuel considered as a strategic commodity are almost out, most gas stations are closed, others sell petrol in limited amounts. The shade price of one liter of petrol in the country is almost 1000 drams, the statement of the Armenian National Congress holds. In this context, the Armenian National Congress demands eliminating monopoly on the import of petrol, creating mechanisms to prevent sale at illegal prices and extra profit in case of fuel shortage, and regulate the sale of petrol until the crisis is overcome, instructing the relevant bodies to create reserves of certain commodities after the end of the crisis to avoid possible crises in future.
