DIASPORAN STUDENTS ARE DISSATISFIED WITH ARMENIAN YOUNG PEOPLE
- Diasporan young men who come to study in Armenia usually encounter difficulty getting used to the reality in the homeland, and the less prepared the student is, the more it takes him to get used. This is mostly caused by the difference between the ways of thinking of the students from Armenia and the Diaspora. A group of Diasporan young people and young people from Armenia, who had joined them, voiced this problem October 3 at the Pastark Club.
The Tkhruni Students Union of the Hnchak Social Democratic Party made a statement calling the government agencies to deal with the problem and make efforts to destroy the watershed between the young people from Armenia and the Diaspora. The leader of Tkhruni is a young man from Armenia, who joined the Diasporan students though. And Ani from this group, who is from Iran, and represents the Nikol Aghbalyan students union of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun, says young people in Armenia want to make Diasporan students become like them. Ani says they do not understand here that they are different, they grew up in a different atmosphere, they have their own way of thinking, worldview, behavior, clothes to wear.
Ani says boys usually have even more problems. She gives the example of hair, saying that when a young man wears his hair long because he wants to wear his hair long, his classmates make him wear it short. Ani says she got used to living in Armenia but many students encounter difficulty and psychologic pressure daily.
Narek Seferyan, whose parents are from Lebanon and he was born and grew up in India, says the Diaspora Armenians have a certain emotional and ideological perception of Armenia, and when they come here and encounter the reality, they get disappointed, which is especially true about students who come to study and live in Armenia for several years and not to travel in Armenia for several weeks.
The students do not know how they can overcome the difficulty. They think it depends on the ability of a separate person to get used to the new reality, as well as it is a matter of time and government action. Ani thinks, for instance, that Armenian children should be taught at school what the Diaspora is and explain to them that the Diasporans are their compatriots, who were born and lived in another place and have a different way of thinking and also the right to live with that way of thinking.
