THE GHOST OF HAMLET’S FATHER HAUNTS SERGE SARGSYAN
From the point of view of political science Serge Sargsyan’s pronouncement that he is ready for a dialogue with the society rather than an individual, in particular, Levon Ter-Petrosyan is meaningless, said the president of the Union of Political Scientists Hmayak Hovanisyan on July 24 at the Iravunk de facto press club. He said he means the policy dialogue, and in that case the representatives of the government and the opposition should have a dialogue. According to the political scientist, this is the only way out, and sooner or later it will happen. It is another issue, Hmayak Hovanisyan says, whether the government will realize the inevitability of the dialogue and will agree to it, or eventually the government will be forced to sit at the table for a dialogue, like in Zimbabwe where the international community forced Mugabee to have a dialogue with the opposition. Hmayak Hovanisyan also told who and what obstructs the dialogue now. According to the political scientist, it is Robert Kocharyan who did a bear’s favor to Serge Sargsyan, worse than the favor that was done to him in 1998. However, unlike 1998 when Vazgen Sargsyan, who had done a bear’s favor to Robert Kocharyan, realized his mistake and found strength in himself to collaborate with Karen Demirchyan, according to Hmayak Hovanisyan, Robert Kocharyan is inclined for the opposite. According to the political scientist, he is trying to show off his influence, his paternalistic protection on Serge Sargsyan. The political scientist thinks it would be logical if after leaving office Robert Kocharyan took a break, at least for ten years, meanwhile he would not do that. Hmayak Hovanisyan thinks maybe Robert Kocharyan feels guilty for March 1, maybe the ghost of the Court of the Hague causes a more serious feeling in him than amusement, maybe Kocharyan is too seriously inclined for being a prime minister, therefore it is now difficult to think about taking a break. In any case, according to Hmayak Hovanisyan, Robert Kocharyan haunts Serge Sargsyan like Hamlet’s father’s ghost, evidence to which is Robert Kocharyan’s visit to Baze before Serge Sargsyan had left it: perhaps he wanted to say “how about me”.
