GOOD PROSPECT FOR ARMENIA IN THE HAGUE

The initiative of the opposition to bring Robert Kocharyan before the court of the Hague does not favor Azerbaijan, and it is a good prospect for Armenia because if the head of state who commits a crime against people is brought before justice, other leaders will not dare to commit crimes against people, stated the representative of the Center of the Popular Movement Levon Zurabyan on July 23 at the Friday club. The reporters had asked him to comment on statements from the government camp that the opposition’s initiative regarding the Hague favors Azerbaijan. Levon Zurabyan agreed that Azerbaijan also has such an intention but it accuses him of crimes allegedly committed during the war in Karabakh, whereas the opposition’s initiative is based on Robert Kocharyan’s crime against people. Levon Zurabyan says the accusations of favoring Azerbaijan are like the case when a thief is not allowed to be brought before justice because he may be tried for rape. Besides, Levon Zurabyan responded to the opinion that the initiative of the opposition has no legal ground. The representative of the center of the popular movement stated that even one citizen can file a suit with the court of the Hague, and they launched collection of signatures as a political action because it will strengthen the suit in the Hague. By the way, mentioning Karadzic against whom the Serbs appealed to the Court of the Hague and who was found with a rather changed appearance, the reporters asked Levon Zurabyan if it is not worthwhile to apply to the police to keep Robert Kocharyan under surveillance not to allow him to change his appearance like Karadzic. Levon Zurabyan said in answer to this remark which aroused laughter, perhaps not without humor, that they will take this proposal into consideration.
