PROVOCATIONS AGAINST THOSE ARRESTED
In the first week almost all those arrested on March 1 encountered provocations aimed to pressure on the arrested representatives of the opposition, stated Gurgen Yeghiazaryan who was in custody and was released on July 21, and held a news conference on July 22. He said he cannot tell about provocations against the other political prisoners because they have relatives but for him he said there were attempts to start different conversations in the cell to shape a negative attitude toward political prisoners. However, Gurgen Yeghiazaryan says he immediately prevented such provocations. In answer to the question if he was tortured, Gurgen Yeghiazaryan says he did not undergo any violence during detention and the period in custody. As to the conditions of the remand prison, Gurgen Yeghiazaryan wanted to respond to Member of Parliament Naira Zohrabyan from Bargavach Hayastan, member of the ad hoc committee for March 1. The member of parliament said after a visit to the Center penitentiary that there was not much difference between the office of the warden and the cells. In this connection, Gurgen Yeghiazaryan said it is enough to mention one difference to imagine the situation. He said there is no toilet in the corner of the warden’s office which is separated from the cell with a low thin board, and in 35 degrees above zero ventilation takes place through the only small window which if opened in winter, the inmates freeze. As to provocations against other political prisoners, Gurgen Yeghiazaryan says without mentioning names that a political figure with his friend shares the cell with someone sentenced for life who actually has nothing to lose and is capable of everything.
