AGHDAM CONTINUES NOT TO BE OUR HOMELAND
During the parliamentary hearings a few years ago then the minister of defense Serge Sargsyan stated that he had stated even during the war that the territories are not liberated to solve a problem of territories but to shape a security area. Serge Sargsyan also stated that Aghdam is not our homeland. The reporters asked Serge Sargsyan if he continues to think so. Serge Sargsyan stated that his stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue remains the same as it has been since 1993, 1994, 1995. “There is no change in my stance, and I will keep it for a long time,” Serge Sargsyan stated. He also stated that as long as there is no peace agreement, at least two officials, the president and the minister of defense must always be ready for the resumption of war every day. In this connection Serge Sargsyan said our response to Azerbaijan’s militarism is an effective army which we sustain and will continue to sustain. At the same time, Serge Sargsyan stated that his impression from his first meeting with Ilham Aliyev was that the opportunities for a peace settlement have not been wasted, and Aliyev is ready to continue peace talks. Serge Sargsyan stated that the Armenian side need no worry when the Azerbaijanis complain of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs. On the other hand, he thinks that it may be a ruse on behalf of the Azerbaijanis to push the co-chairs to certain pro-Azerbaijani moves. Noting that this ruse will not favor the peace settlement of the conflict, Serge Sargsyan stated that the Armenian side is ready to continue the talks based on the proposals of Madrid, and considers the OSCE Minsk Group-mediated talks as the best format for the success of the talks.
