RESIGNATION IS THE WAY OUT

On July 17 the committee for political prisoners released a statement, voicing concern about the situation in Armenia, and pointing to Serge Sargsyan’s resignation as the way out. “Dear compatriots, We who have not spared anything for independent and democratic Armenia since 1988, even in our most pessimistic forecasts could not imagine that we and our friends would appear in the prisons of independent Armenia. For the sake of a government which is an end in itself and protection of robbed property, a group of irresponsible and short-sighted people endanger the future of Armenia and Artsakh. To prevent this danger, to return government to its real owner, the people, we the ex-political prisoners are ready for any sacrifice. Imprisonment, prisons, illogical punishments cannot stop our struggle and question our confidence in our victory. We are convinced that our friends kept hostages in prisons agree with us. We the ex-political prisoners who appeared in prison due to their arbitrariness and violence want to tell the gang which has usurped government violently, The fact that you violated the right of the Armenian people to vote does not empower you to consider yourselves the government of Armenia. The fact that you hold on to your wobbly power through bloodshed, bayonets and violence against peaceful demonstrators does not mean that you have destroyed the spirit of popular struggle against you. Today, as Armenia and Karabakh are jeopardized by your criminal activities we state once again that we are ready for any sacrifice, and we find that the best way out of this situation is that Serge Sargsyan who seized power from people violently must resign. We demand his resignation Dear Armenian people who have stood up for freedom and democracy, our struggle is fair, our victory is inevitable. So go all the way to struggle. We will win,” runs the statement of the committee for political prisoners signed by ex-political prisoners Karapet Rubinyan, Suren Surenyants, Avetik Nersisyan, Samvel Gevorgyan, Khachik Gasparyan, Norair Norikyan, Levik Khachatryan, Khachik Simonyan, Nver Sargsyan, Masis Aivazyan, Samvel Harutiunyan, Hovanes Ghazaryan, Jirair Sefilyan, Gurgen Mikaelyan, Tigran Baghdasaryan, Gor Sargsyan, Hamlet Abrahamyan, Grigory Manukyan, Misak Hovakimyan.
