RISK INCREASED IN ARMENIA
Aghasi Mkrtichyan, economist for the World Bank, stated in a news conference on July 16 in Yerevan that the macroeconomic risks have increased in Armenia, ARKA reports. “The economic growth remains high but at the same time there are macroeconomic risks which increased in the first few months of 2008, and the greatest risk is the growth in prices,” said Aghasi Mkrtichyan, presenting the results of the economic monitoring of the first five months. Among risks Mkrtichyan mentioned foreign balance, especially the deterioration in the conditions of trade, the growth of prices of imported goods compared with exported goods, as well as the declining rate of export. The other risks, according to the economist, are the tension on the world financial market, which may cause certain tension in such countries as Armenia. Another risk is that the moving force of the Armenian economy is construction and service rather than spheres aimed at export.
