NALBANDYAN MET KRAMER

The Armenian foreign minister Edward Nalbandyan visiting Washington met with David Kramer, deputy secretary of state for human rights. Earlier Kramer had visited Armenia and voiced concern about anti-Semitic pronouncements at a governmental level and through the pro-government press. During the meeting they discussed efforts to overcome the obstacles to democratic reforms which occurred due to the post-election developments in Armenia, the foreign ministry reports. Edward Nalbandyan presented the steps of the Armenian government to implement the PACE resolutions 1609 and 1620, noted that the democratic reform is the conscious choice of the Armenian people, and the Armenian government is determined to carry on and promote the process not only because of obligations to the European organizations or demands of friendly countries but because it is in the interests of our country and our people. Edward Nalbandyan added that the Armenian government acknowledges that there is a lot to do, and they are resolved to follow that track. David Kramer said as a friendly country the United States wants Armenia to overcome difficulties as soon as possible, and continue to move towards democracy.
