OMBUDSMAN REQUESTS SECURITY FROM DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL SECURITY SERVICE

On July 4 the human rights defender Armen Harutiunyan sent an official letter to the head of the National Security Service of Armenia, Mr. G. Hakobyan, on the issue of security of the human rights defender and his family members. The official letter of the Defender runs: “According to Article 21 of the law on the human rights defender, the Defender and members of his family are under the protection of the State. Based on the request of the Defender, the competent state agencies must take all the necessary measures to ensure the security of the Defender and members of his family.” The ombudsman requests individual security for him and his family, and five employees of the relevant body and two automobiles for the transportation of his family members, the department of information and public relations of the Office of the Defender reports.
