LASTING POLITICAL PROCESS
- The first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan addressed the rally of the Popular Movement of July 4. He spoke about the future activities of the movement. “We offered a proposal of a constructive dialogue to the government but either they misunderstood or misappreciated. Therefore, we are going to change our strategy. In July we will aim at the greatest mobilization of the society.” Over this period the movement will have two directions of activities, mass and non-mass pickets, demonstrations, marches, regional rallies, Ter-Petrosyan says. Their purpose is the organization of the rally on August 1 during which 100 days of Serge Sargsyan will be evaluated and the actions stemming from it will be revealed. The second direction of the movement is activities aimed to turn the Movement, the election alliance into a lasting political factor, that is to create the Armenian National Congress. Ter-Petrosyan is convinced that all people will join the Congress. On behalf of the movement Levon Ter-Petrosyan set forward the following demands: release political prisoners, stop political persecution, take prompt action against political persecution carried out on the basis of the illegal circular of the head of the Special Investigation Service Andranik Mirzoyan (by the way, Ter-Petrosyan appeals to the human rights defender and the chair of the state and legal committee Davit Harutiunyan to make a complete legal evaluation of that circular), reveal and bring before justice all those responsible for the crimes of March 1, first of all Robert Kocharyan. And one more demand, dismiss all the persons who organized election fraud during the presidential election, and had a key role in the crime of March 1: vice premier Armen Gevorgyan, head of the president staff Hovik Abrahamyan, Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan, the head of the National Security Service Gorik Hakobyan, the president of the Public Television and Radio Council Alik Harutiunyan. Levon Ter-Petrosyan stated that if the mentioned demands are not met, from August 1 the main demand of the Popular Movement will be the resignation of Serge Sargsyan and an early presidential election.
