CENTER OF POPULAR MOVEMENT REVEALED NUMBERS OF CARS WHICH BROUGHT ASSAULTERS
On July 3 the representative of the Center of the Popular Movement Levon Zurabyan who held a news conference at the Friday club touched upon the incident which took place on July 2 on North Avenue. On North Avenue a group of young men went up to the participants of the political walk, provoked a quarrel and started beating people. Among the provokers the witnesses recognized some bodyguards of the mayor of Erebuni community Mher Sedrakyan and the mayor of Center community Gagik Beglaryan. According to Levon Zurabyan, what happened on July 2 resembled the dictatorships of Latin America in the 1960s when they sent their gangs to repress and intimidate their opponents. “In this situation there is nothing else people can do but to stand up, reveal the might of the popular movement, release the leaders arrested for expressing their opinion freely, restoring violated democratic freedoms in the country,” Levon Zurabyan says. “All that happened before the police, about 300 witnesses. Now I will reveal the numbers of cars in which the assaulters arrived: 14 ՍՕ 265, 286 ՍՕ 64, 638 ԼԼ 64, 297 ԼԼ 64, 436 ԼԼ 64. First, there is no mean action that the police is unable to do, second, the government is losing its nerve, which means that the line we pursue, the struggle for democracy and legality, produces its fruits, and the government is already in a difficult psychological state,” Levon Zurabyan says. In answer to the question of reporters if he does not fear that the government may repeat the provocation in the rally of July 4, Levon Zurabyan says no. “It is very difficult to do such a thing in a multi-thousand rally. I have no such fears but it is a worrying signal that the government is trying to hinder peaceful assemblies through its provocateurs,” Levon Zurabyan says.
