The secretary of the Republican faction Samvel Nikoyan stated May 30 that the presidential election was a mere occasion for the opposition to do a revolution planned beforehand. “Every political force which aspires to victory in the presidential elections, both in the world and in Armenia, the methods are the following, an attempt is made to run in local elections, gain this basis, then run in parliamentary elections, it is highly important to learn the attitude of the society toward the political force, it is also sufficient ground to run in the presidential elections later, having sufficient ground to run in the presidential election and to have expectations. Some actions, according to the secretary of the Republican faction, are taken. “Definitely not all the requirements of resolution 1906 have been fulfilled. It takes time, it takes a long time, and efforts in this direction continue,” Samvel Nikoyan says. In particular, he touched upon the amendments to the law on rallies, meetings and assemblies, which actually prohibits such actions in Armenia. Samvel Nikoyan says on March 17 when the parliament discussed it he thought the constraints would cause problems with the international community, however, Nikoyan says, at the moment Armenia needs the law. “The amendments to this law protected our society, our state from further unpredictable, worse events than March 1, such a situation,” Samvel Nikoyan says, noting that they have some time to go till the summer session of the PACE to discuss the law with the Venice Commission and make it compliant. “I think public debates on the events of March 1 are highly important. In this connection, the joint hearings on June 5, the human rights and European integration committees, the report of the human rights defender is concerned. The representatives of the Office of Prosecutor General will take part in it, possibly the police, the ministry of justice, and I think these open, public debates are also necessary to our society,” says Samvel Nikoyan.
