GOVERNMENT WILL AUDIT INADEQUATE BUSINESSES
The Armenian government will make every effort to prevent inflation, said Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan during the meeting of government on May 29. “Study shows that the elasticity of prices in Armenia is not satisfactory because prices rise suddenly and steeply, while later they drop slowly. Unfortunately, we will be unable to prevent inflation without the interference of the government,” Tigran Sargsyan said. He drew attention to the fact that recently the prices of bread and rice have dropped in the world, particularly the price of wheat dropped by 42 percent, and the price of bread dropped by 22 percent. “Obviously, it will favor the prices of these products to tend to drop in Armenia, and considering that the share of bread, rice is big in the basket of goods, it may cause the prices to drop,” the prime minister said. He also said that the government will focus on this issue and will audit the companies whose prices will not correspond to prices on the international market, especially imported goods. “It may create a rather favorable environment,” Tigran Sargsyan said.
