WHO OWNS 81 PERCENT OF LICHTENSTEIN?
Who owns the company registered in Lichtenstein which holds 81 percent of the ACP company’s shares which got license to operate the mine in Teghut? The environmentalists who have launched the campaign for protection of Teghut and Member of Parliament Zaruhi Postanjyan who has joined them ask this question to the government of Armenia. In answer to the question whether the government is unaware of the terrible environmental disaster that the operation of the mine of Teghut will inflict on the forest, the member of parliament said she does not think those in government are that ingenuous. “By the way, the present prime minister who has delivered nice lectures to me and a number of other people perfectly classifies states into developed, industrial, post-industrial, and regressive countries. During the lecture our prime minister described the countries whose economies heavily rely on mining as the most regressive countries, and in fact with the operation of Teghut we become a regressive country where labor costs 40 thousand drams, while the same person can farm the land which may generate profit and offers more prospects,” says Zaruhi Postanjyan, noting that in fact some people are likely to become rich at the expense of the country and the society, the entire Armenian nation. The environmentalists say molybdenum has growing demand in the world, and its price is increasing, and by exporting it we treat this strategic reserve barbarically. They reminded that one of the biggest mines of molybdenum of the world is operated in Armenia, and the second would be lavishness. In case of strong public pressure it is possible to suspend the decision of the government, the environmentalists say, noting that if the operation of Teghut is not prevented, they will start digging mines in other parts of Armenia, including uranium, which are already being explored in Syunik. The environmentalists say if this tendency persists, Armenia will not be fit to live in any more.
