ROMAN PILOYAN FROM DZORAKAP VILLAGE JOINED HUNGER PROTEST
On May 10 at 3 pm Roman Piloyan from the village of Dzorakap went on hunger protest. He joined the action of protest of Sevak Saghatelyan, another inhabitant of the village, who has one demand – immediate release of Mushegh and Shota Saghatelyan, as well as all the other political prisoners. Fifteen azatamartiks from Gyumri have already stated that on May 12 they go on hunger protest at 9 am, demanding the release of Ashot Zakaryan and all the other political prisoners. The azatamartiks and their 7 supporters went on a 24-hour hunger protest on May 7 and 8 but the authorities did not respond. On Monday at 11 am the Northern Circuit Court of Armenia will continue the hearing of the case of Ashot Zakaryan, Shota Saghatelyan and Petros Makeyan. The abovementioned actions of protest are covered in detail in the news programs of Gala TV and Tsaig TV of Gyumri. On May 10 at 5 pm the azatamartiks of the region of Shirak released a statement which holds: “After the presidential election of 2008 innumerable heroes of the liberation war in Artsakh appeared in prison on put-up charges for political dissent. The trials have nothing to do with justice because people are arrested and sentenced in suspicious circumstances, with false testimonies of incredulous witnesses, in accordance with political orders from above. Voicing protest against injustice, violation of human rights, we the fifteen azatamartiks of the region of Shirak go on hunger protest from May 12, 2008 in protection of our arrested commander Colonel Ashot Zakaryan and the other political prisoner azatamartiks. We call the Armenian government for sensibility and soberness because they bear whole responsibility for the consequences of tenacious repression of the azatamartiks.” The azatamartiks of the region of Shirak are going to issue addresses to the heads of some accredited ambassadors and international missions to Armenia about the hunger protest of May 12.
