ARMENIA WISHES CONVENTION 14 WERE BROUGHT INTO BEING
The foreign ministry of Armenia reports that on May 7 minister Edward Nalbandyan met with the CoE Human Rights Commissioner Thomas Hammarberg and the president of the ECHR Jean-Paul Costa. In the meeting with Hammarberg Edward Nalbandyan appreciated the level of cooperation with the human rights commissioner and said the government focuses on the recommendations the commissioner presented during his visit to Armenia on March 14 -16. The minister informed that on the instruction of the presidnet a working group has been set up to coordinate the implementation of the PACE resolution 1609. The group was instructed to come up with proposals within a short period of time. He also reported the statement of the coalition which is committed to reforms set down in the presidential program, the coalition agreement and the program of the government. In the meeting with the president of the ECHR Jean-Paul Costa Nalbandyan said Armenia is ready to carry on and promote cooperation with the ECHR. With regard to the European convention 14 which was worked out to get the court have more flexibility, hear cases within a reasonable period and centralize hearings of important cases. Edward Nalbandyan underlined that Armenia is among the first countries who ratified the protocol 14 and attaches importance to the enactment of the convention.
