NALBANDYAN MET WITH OSCE SECRETARY GENERAL
The foreign ministry of Armenia reports that on May 7 minister Edward Nalbandyan met with the OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut and discussed the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, cooperation with the OSCE country office in Armenia, as well as the OSCE/ODIHR report on the presidential election of Armenia. The minister informed the OSCE Secretary General about his meeting with the Azerbaijani foreign minister Mammedyarov and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs and noted that Armenia highly appreciates the efforts of the co-chairs and is willing to continue the talks on the basis of the proposals they offered in Madrid since they enable movement toward progress. The minister also said Armenia condemns any effort that contradicts to the Minsk Group efforts and may hinder the talks. Edward Nalbandyan presented the moves of the Armenian government aimed to build confidence among the society and establish a dialogue with different political forces on issues of common concern. He informed that the president of Armenia instructed to set up a working group to coordinate the implementation of the recommendations of the PACE resolution 1609. The foreign minister of Armenia said the coalition is also willing to pursue reforms aimed to extend possibilities for the activities of the opposition in the political sphere, as well as raising confidence in elections, enhancing freedom of speech and independence of the media, as well as compliance of the judicial system with European standards. Nalbandyan informed that the Armenian parliament has also set up a working group aimed to study the recommendations of international and expertise organizations on the improvement of the election process in the context of the presidential election and to extend proposals to the National Assembly on elaboration of the election code.
