In 2007 and the first four months of 2008 79 families returned to Armenia who were permanent residents of other countries, said Alvina Zakaryan, the head of the passport and visa department of the Police on May 7, ARKA reports. “They are the families who rejected the status of permanent residents of the United States, France and Germany and received new passports of Armenia,” Alvina Zakaryan said. She stated that the Armenian citizens of other countries have appealed to her department for dual nationality. Alvina Zakaryan said judging by the data of the department of passport and visa now the number of people who come to Armenia for permanent residence is one and a half times more than the number of people who leave Armenia for permanent residence in other countries. Zakaryan said in 2008 799 people applied for citizenship of Armenia. “Most of these people are citizens of Georgia, Russia, Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon, Turkmenistan, and the United States,” Alvina Zakaryan said.
