DOES ROBERT KOCHARYAN INFLUENCE THE CURRENT PROCESS?
Still as adviser to President Robert Kocharyan on national security, Garnik Isagulyan had stated that he believed that after leaving office Robert Kocharyan would have a rather great influence on the political process in Armenia. In a news conference on May 6 at the Friday Club the reporters reminded Garnik Isagulyan about his statement and tried to find out whether he thinks Robert Kocharyan has influence on the recent appointments to government. “I can say the following. There is the head of state, there is the Constitution of Armenia about how the government is shaped, I would say that nobody, especially Robert Kocharyan, would allow himself to interfere with the appointment of the government. I think, and Serge Sargsyan the head of state has the will and also to appoint the government without any instructions or. Today’s government, if you look at it, was based on the coalition,” says Garnik Isagulyan, noting that Serge Sargsyan said from the very beginning that a government of national agreement would be shaped, and if there were wish, according to Garnik Isagulyan, even the hardest opposition forces would be included. “You can see the rest that is happening, and I think that you cannot see anyone’s hand there. The appointments are clear. I do not think that with regard to the prime minister that Serge Sargsyan made that move considering the qualification and professionalism of the person,” Garnik Isagulyan says. He says a role does not mean interference. Isagulyan believes that Kocharyan will be active, will have his office, and he does not think that he quit our public and political life forever.
