THE LEAST IS LEFT TO DO – TO SET TO WORK
- The ideas on the change of methods of governance that the prime minister utters, seasoned with references to Christian values are no doubt difficult to dispute. For instance, nobody can deny that there is no need or it is pointless to learn all the time, one cannot be a competitive specialist, and effective manager, it is impossible to have success without knowledge and intellect in the globalized world, self-cleaning is necessary, it is necessary to have a responsible government to have a responsible society. In fact, Tigran Sargsyan’s words are pleasant for the ear, although it depends on the ear. For instance, it is difficult to tell what the members of parliament thought as they heard those words on April 29, especially those whose knowledge and intellect is measured by their nickname. Perhaps they thought that if the prime minister says so, it is necessary otherwise the president would not have allowed him to come and say so, if he allowed, it means the system needs it. Therefore, maybe the members of parliament did not have negative thoughts when they listened to Tigran Sargsyan. After all, what was the person doing? Speaking. So let him speak. And speaks Tigran Sargsyan, speaks about turning Armenia into a regional center, financial, of tourism, health, infrastructures, industrial. The only problem is what the government means by saying a center. Because one way or another, Armenia is almost at the center of the region, if we include all our four neighbors in the region. If they mean the content rather than geography, the problem becomes a little complicated. Certainly, it is not bad to wish, especially that everything starts with wish, as one of the world-famous psychoanalysts said but it is not enough to wish. It is necessary to act. For instance, Tigran Sargsyan states they are going to do everything possible to turn Armenia into the cheapest country in terms of transportation of cargo and passengers by air. In other words, we are going to make our infrastructures attractive with their cheapness. Very good. Excellent. But who needs a street which is smooth, clean, free, safe but leads nowhere, is at the suburb and is a dead-end street? If the borders of Armenia are blocked, if the regional communications bypass Armenia, free roads mean nothing. After all, today those routes do not lead anywhere, and the routes which take somewhere bypass Armenia. Perhaps it is easier to become a financial, health, industrial, and tourism center. But for tourism, although we have declared it an economic priority, and try our best to make the country attractive, more tourists visit Georgia and Azerbaijan than Armenia. The same is about IT which has also been declared an economic priority. However, it is that we speak. There have been other speakers but now we speak with a literate, modern, new way of thinking. Therefore, at least there is progress in this. The least remains to do – to set to work, but in the case of Armenia experience shows that it resembles the joke when a person finds a button on the ground and exclaims: “Oh yes, the coat is left.” JAMES HAKOBYAN
