STARS ON GOVERNMENT’S EPAULETS

Perhaps it is not rewarding to speak about the civil stance of the stars of show business. They do not have time for such stances because they work hard. At night they sing in a club or a restaurant owned by a government official, in the afternoon they sing on the pre-election concert of the same government official. There is really too much work, about which one of the old residents of our show business Nune Yesayan, who said to be satisfied with current life and explained why the stars endorsed Serge Sargsyan. They say the stars will endorse and leave, and there is nothing horrible. What is horrible is what Nune Yesayan uttered. The media reported Nune Yesayan state about those who were killed during the clampdown by the government: “People who were there made a mistake. Those who got killed should not have been there.” Where should those people have been? What tips would Nune Yesayan like to give people on how to choose the place to be? Are people welcome to phone Nune Yesayan at any time of the day and ask for advice on where they can be, where it is safe and where they cannot be because there is danger to get killed? And how does Nune Yesayan know where they should not be because they are going to be beaten, injured or killed? How should people know? Perhaps Nune Yesayan and her colleagues know better the government they have endorsed and they perhaps know that a citizen should not be where the government is because it is life hazard. But in that case the stars should have warned the citizens in one way or another. Maybe some of the victims listened to Nune Yesayan’s songs, or were even her fans. Although maybe Yesayan and the other stars think that their audience and fans are nowhere and should not be anywhere except their shows. “People who were there made a mistake. Those who got killed should not have been there.” And what is the right thing to do, dear Ms. Yesayan? Who is right, who determines what is right and what the benchmarks are? Is the right thing to be at night clubs where most of our stars make money, or is it right to be in the United States, playing with the patriotic feelings of the Diaspora in which way our stars make money? What is right? “What is black and white and what is light and shadow?” Maybe Nune Yesayan will answer the question asked in the words of the song of one of her colleagues? Or maybe it is right to be quiet if you are not singing or to sing if you would not keep quiet? YEGHISHEH METSARENTS
