FIRST PRESIDENT’S OPINION ON BUSINESSMEN
The first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan who addressed the reception of the All-Armenian Movement on the Independence Day on September 21, criticized this government for separating the businessmen from the resources controlled by government. The first president said it is a mistake to refer to them as oligarchs. According to Levon Ter-Petrosyan, it is the wrong word, and it is even an insulting word.
“They are entrepreneurs, they are businessmen. And they are not the pillars of government. They are the victims of this government. They would be happy to work legally, enjoy the respect of the society and their self-respect. They cannot win respect through charity. And do not think that these people do not pay taxes. They do pay, and they perhaps now pay more than they would pay legally. But these taxes do not go to the state budget, they go to the pocket of the people that you know,” Levon Ter-Petrosyan says.
