The leader of the Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian told news reporters on April 25 “the march towards victory continues, the election campaign of the party is gathering momentum and goes on with positive emotions.” At the onset of the campaign Raffi Hovannisian had stated that there are no equal opportunities, parties are denied access to halls for rallies and advertisement is limited. Even if there is a preliminary arrangement, the municipalities and privately-owned companies refuse to place the advertisements of the Heritage Party. There are other minor obstacles. Such as “medieval mayors who think their territory is their kingdom.” At any rate, Raffi Hovannisian stated that the Heritage Party has a lot of supporters and “we will achieve victory despite these phenomena”.
The recent case of hindering the campaign of the Heritage Party was reported on April 20 at Avan Community of Yerevan. The volunteers of the party, girls, were distributing pre-election booklets when four young men drove up in a BMW car and seized all the booklets from the girls. They know the name of the owner of the car, it is Robert Petrosyan who lived in this neighborhood. Raffi Hovannisian said he went to the Police and the mayor of Avan for apology and compensation for the damage and decided to meet with the voters of Avan.
Another recent anti-democratic phenomenon is the collection of passports of voters. Raffi Hovannisian believes that “the relevant agencies and the law enforcement bodies should be worried by it if they are not engaged in it.” According to Raffi Hovannisian, this is a violation of democracy and human rights and may have different purposes. This time the observers will not pursue geopolitical interests, Raffi Hovannisian believes, and they should be viewed as partners.
