WITHOUT A MASK OR WITH A NEW MASK
- Serge Sargsyan stated at the beginning of the election campaign that he would not carry out a classical campaign. We have to admit that despite different descriptions and evaluations of his actions the prime minister kept his word. The official campaign started two weeks ago, and Serge Sargsyan has not had a moment of classical campaign yet. What he has done during meetings with voters at rostrums of different communities is worth the classics of not electioneering but of quite another genre. This normally calm, forceful, serious figure who is known for an accurate and reasonable use of anecdotes during political debates has suddenly started to shout, and the voter may not understand the point of his shouting because in parallel he can hear the prime minister and wonders which one is the real Serge Sargsyan. The person who has been on the political heaven of Armenia for over ten years as a serious political figure and public official, or the person who has suddenly started clamoring on different stages in Davitashen, in Kanaker, anywhere else in Yerevan, on any other stage, an any other rostrum. Perhaps he thinks that when Serge Sargsyan shouts Armenia somewhere in Davitashen, people do not react adequately. Because the thoughts of the people are in Armenia where Serge Sargsyan was serious, occupied the posts of minister of defense, home affairs, national security and did not have time for politics. He quietly did his job. Now that he has started speaking out, and even shouting, the public wonders if the past has disappeared or the future is eluding.
In fact, when the opposition figures shout and clamor, people understand they want power. But when Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan shouts, people wonder what he wants. Power? He has it. More power? But he knows better than anyone else that people do not distribute power in Armenia. Is it possible that those who distribute power in Armenia refuse to give to Serge Sargsyan as to the opposition, and the prime minister has to make loud speeches to the people like the opposition for at least the people to enable him to come to power? If it is so, it means the ice has finally broken, and the prime minister is drifting on a piece of ice away from the iceberg, and the only hope is to call people to rescue him. Meanwhile, Garnik Isagulyan says this time the number of party offices will be deciding, not speeches. In this case, why is Serge Sargsyan wasting his time on fiery speeches? Why didn’t Garnik Isagulyan advise the prime minister not to waste energy on speeches? Only because he is adviser to the president of Armenia, not the prime minister? But Garnik Isagulyan also finds Serge Sargsyan the next presidential candidate. It means he should be more interested in sparing his energy. But perhaps Serge Sargsyan knows something that is not to known to Garnik Isagulyan, and generally to everyone who is convinced that nothing has happened in this country and everything is the same as ever.
The street skirmishes, blasts, attempts on life are usual. However, the unusual behavior of Serge Sargsyan appears more unusual against this usualness. If the only reason is the pre-election one, it means we deal with a performer rather than a political figure, who is on a concert tour and wants to get the applause of viewers. In this sense, we deal with classical fraud rather than classical electioneering. However, this suggestion comes to one’s mind if one is guided by the thinking of the people around Serge Sargsyan who claim that everything is usual in the country. And if we are guided by the presumption of frankness of the prime minister, his metamorphosis, even if it lasts for at least a month or in his spare time, has only one logical explanation: the reality, the situation has changed, therefore Serge Sargsyan has to remove the mask of a serious figure because in hard times a serious behavior is excess load and luxury.
