THE LOSS IS VISIBLE BEST FROM THE DISTANCE OF YEARS
- Over its history of 15 years the Republican Party of Armenia loses its third leader. Moreover, all the three leaders had a tragic death. Ashot Navasardyan, Vazgen Sargsyan, Andranik Margaryan. Andranik Margaryan, the most long-lived prime minister of Armenia and the most long-lived leader of the Republican Party, deceased untimely at the age of 56. Andranik Margaryan assumed both posts in a crucial political period for the country, in an extreme home political situation, when after October 27, 1999 Armenia was facing a challenge that threatened the existence of the state.
On assuming the leadership of the Republican Party and becoming prime minister of Armenia Andranik Margaryan, in fact, performed an important role in settling the political situation and sustaining political stability at home. Despite the different ways and methods of establishing stability and different evaluations of the quality of stability, one thing is certain that without it the country would follow an unpredictable track. In this sense, the greatest achievement of the past 7 years of the political activities of Andranik Margaryan was sustaining of the balance in the government, to which the prime minister contributed greatly. For a deeper evaluation of the life and work of Andranik Margaryan, as well as any other figure twice as much time is necessary than this life and work, but one thing is clear that the work of the prime minister helped to raise the country’s predictability, and his physical death reduced, at least for some time, this predictability, especially in this deciding pre-election period in Armenia.
Hopeful that the death of Andranik Margaryan will not cause a situation from which he tried to protect the country over the past few years of his life, it should be acknowledged that the role and importance of the prime minister and party leader Andranik Margaryan in the modern history of Armenia will be evaluated in the future. Because his importance is obvious, the loss will be best visible from the distance of years. Meanwhile, the human loss cannot be assessed, it is always painful and irreversible.
