PROPOSAL TO SET UP JOINT HEADQUARTERS
The leader of the Democratic Party of Armenia Aram Gaspar Sargsyan offered the opposition forces running in the parliamentary election to set up a joint headquarters of the opposition. Aram Sargsyan held a news conference on March 21 and itemized the problems that the joint headquarters will tackle.
First, to reject party slogans and come together, go around the country to assure people that they “are ready to struggle for a free election”. And to support those who are ready to fight for the same goal. And to point to the right track for those who underwent pressure or took election bribe. Second, if a force majeure occurs, the joint headquarters will be able to control the situation. Aram Sargsyan says a force majeure may occur until May 12. Third. The joint headquarters will coordinate the work of the proxies of the opposition forces and the opposition members of the electoral commissions. Fourth. After the voting the opposition forces will write the records together. Aram Sargsyan is against boycott as a way of struggle against the government, “staying at home and waiting to see what they will be doing” because unlike 2003 when the pro-government forces joined their efforts for one person, today the situation has changed.
Aram Sargsyan informed that so far only the Orinats Yerkir Party and the Democratic Way Party have responded to the proposal to set up a joint headquarters. The National Solidarity Party has come up with such an initiative. It does not make Aram Sargsyan feel depressed because it is not important who the author of the initiative is, it is important to meet the challenges. Aram Sargsyan would wish to cooperate with the Republican Party like in the 1990s when the founder of the Republican Party Ashot Navasardyan was alive. Today Aram Sargsyan cannot imagine the Republican Party and the Bargavach Hayastan Party join the struggle for a fair election. “Their speeches about free elections are mere slogans addressed to the European observers. The Republican Party uses the administrative resource, and the opportunities are not equal for all the political parties,” Aram Sargsyan says.
Aram Sargsyan also stated that it would be right if in case of electoral fraud the opposition make the frauds resign rather than resign themselves.
