OSKANYAN HITS THE ROAD
- Vardan Oskanyan certainly differs from the other representatives of the ruling elite with his statements about the creation of the national political agenda of the upcoming decade. It is possible, of course, that the others do not make such statements for the simple reason that they do not know what an agenda is and maybe they take it for a regime, whereas a regime is an undesirable prospect for them. It seems that in this relation Vardan Oskanyan is in a favorable state, considering that he may be one of the presidential candidates in 2008. It is almost certain that he will be. Therefore, perhaps, after a lasting pause Vardan Oskanyan again spoke about home political, national problems. And the purpose of this talk is perhaps to show to the public how Oskanyan differs from the other representatives of the ruling elite. Perhaps Vardan Oskanyan will not be running for parliament on any party’s ticket for the same purpose. It means they are trying to carve a people’s candidate out of Vardan Oskanyan, explaining his non-appearance on any party’s ticket by the statement that the demand for a new political agenda should come from “us, people”. In other words, Oskanyan belongs the public, which supposes that the he does not consider that the candidates running on party tickets belong the public.
It should be noted that there is nothing strange about it. Oskanyan is certainly the best “popular” candidate inside the government. And certainly one of the pro-government candidates should rotate around the people’s axis. In other words, Vardan Oskanyan will be the Bargavach Hayastan Party in the presidential election, and Serge Sargsyan will remain the Republican Party. Perhaps there is no such a goal yet but the process itself is already a goal. Robert Kocharyan follows his favorite way when everyone around act, and he watches. Naturally, thus Kocharyan gains advantage because nobody can guess his thoughts because his actions are not visible. For Serge Sargsyan, it would be easier to understand on an example from chess. The guarantee of the victory of a chess player is to be able to think at least one move ahead of the opponent, and think right. Meanwhile, when the opponent does not make a move in answer, you never know if you have guesses his moves right and if the distance of the guess is sufficient.
Robert Kocharyan assumes the role of a judge by throwing Vardan Oskanyan into Serge Sargsyan’s “jaws”. But it cannot be a guarantee of invincibility for him, especially if we recall the famous joke when an Armenian and a Jew are tried, and the judge is sentenced to 15 years. Oskanyan or Serge Sargsyan are not Jews, but who said that trying two Armenians is safer than trying an Armenian and a Jew. In addition, the political processes in Armenia are all anecdotes and who knows what Serge Sargsyan treated Vardan Oskanyan at the Parvana Restaurant when he invited him to dine with Bejuashvili.
