VAHAN HOVANISYAN CALLS FOR CHANGE OF GOVERNMENT
Vahan Hovanisyan, the deputy speaker of the Armenian parliament, stated March 7 that he does not hinder the change of the government. Moreover, he calls people for changing the government. Vahan Hovanisyan made this sensational statement at the National Press Club when the news reporters asked him to comment on the report of the U.S. Department of State which states that the Armenian citizens are not able freely to change their government. The news reporters asked Vahan Hovanisyan’s opinion as a representative of the government.
Vahan Hovanisyan declined to comment on the report and this statement in particular. He said he has not read the report and does not trust the reporters’ citation. The deputy speaker of the National Assembly stated, however, that he does not create obstacles for people to change their government, he even calls on to make consistent efforts. “If people think that a change of the government is necessary, they must act without waiting until someone helps them,” Vahan Hovanisyan said.
He underlined that people must vote and protect their vote. In answer to the question whether the ARF Dashnaktsutyun may withdraw from the race in case they see the rules of the game are violated. He says if the laws and the Constitution are violated, “and people have no way out, the UN Convention vests them with the right to resist.”
