REDISTRIBUTION ON MOBILE PHONE MARKET
A few days ago the head of the Customs Service of Armenia Armen Avetisyan stated proudly on TV that they have bought equipment for a few million dollars to reveal and prevent mobile phone smuggling into Armenia. We have learned that this technological progress in the Customs Service is the prelude of the redistribution of the market of imports of mobile phones. The media have reported for a number of times that the elder son of the Armenian President Sedrak Kocharyan controls the imports of mobile phones. We have learned that a decision was made at the top level to transfer the monopoly of imports of mobile phones to, in particular, to import mobile phones through Samvel Alexanyan, the sole importer of sugar to Armenia. It means Alexanyan is now a shareholder of Sedrak Kocharyan’s business, which is a great achievement, of course. At least our source from the customs service says other importers of cannot get customs clearance for a long time now. Meanwhile, it is impossible to get the mobiles to the market without customs clearance first, otherwise the customs service would not spend several million dollars on equipment which will not work. In addition, the National Security Service has displayed interest in companies which have been importing mobile phones to Armenia so far.
