DASHNAKTSUTYUN CLEANS UP TICKET
In the upcoming Armenian parliamentary election the ARF Dashnaktsutyun will offer a ticket of 100, stated Hrant Margaryan, a member of the ARF Bureau January 29 at the Friday Club. He said the ARF Dashnaktsutyun will focus on the proportional ticket because they were against the majority system of election. Hrant Margaryan states that political figures will run in the election on the ARFD ticket, and the number of non-members of the ARFD on the ticket of the party will be cut.
“There is no reason. The reason is that we allied with different nongovernmental organizations in the previous elections, we entered an alliance, it was a common ticket. Non-Dashnaks counted one third. This time the arrangement will be different. Certainly they will be included, they will be important, we have always included non-Dashnaks in our activities, because we believe that one needn’t be a member of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun to be a real Dashnak,” Hrant Margaryan says.
Although he says there is no extraordinary reason for including less non-members, the reason may be the dissatisfaction of the political party with non-members who became members of parliament on the ARFD ticket. Although Hrant Margaryan says the ARFD is not disappointed with the members of the faction, Hrant Margaryan declines to give a more important reason for reducing the number of non-members on the ARFD ticket. Moreover, he was very cold in speaking about the partnership between the ARFD and Hrant Vardanyan. Meanwhile, in 2003 non-members Mikayel Vardanyan, Samvel Sahakyan and Armineh Hovanisyan appeared in the parliament thanks to this partnership, and they were all Hrant Vardanyan’s people.
“It sounds inappropriate to say that the major ARF Dashnaktsutyun cooperates with Hrant Vardanyan. We respect Hrant Vardanyan and our relation is normal, and I think it will remain normal. But we can cooperate with political forces, organizations,” Hrant Margaryan says.
The ARF Dashnaktsutyun will confirm the ticket in an extraordinary meeting of the Supreme Assembly a week before extending it to the Central Electoral Commission. Hrant Margaryan says although their political party is considered as closed, it is much more open than the other political parties, and the ticket will be confirmed in a discussion. “The ARF Dashnaktsutyun is the most democratic party in Armenia,” Hrant Margaryan says. He says he does not know where the tickets of the other political parties are drawn up. “They are open, we are closed, therefore I do not know where the tickets of the others are drawn up,” says the representative of the ARF Bureau with irony.
