FAREWELL TO HRANT DINK

On January 23, in the hour when the funeral of Hrant Dink, Armenian journalist, the editor of the Agos, was going on in Istanbul, thousands of Armenians gathered at the Square of Freedom in Yerevan to bid farewell to Dink. During this event information on Dink’s life and work and passages from his articles were read. The organizers stated that Dink’s work is immortal and will be completed by his compatriots. Anthony Godfry, U.S. Charge d’Affaires, a.i. was also present, who told news reporters that the U.S. representatives are at the funeral of Dink in Istanbul. Godfry said a tragedy happened, and is hopeful that conclusions will be drawn in terms of improvement of the Armenian and Turkish relations. Official Yerevan was represented to this rally by Deputy Foreign Minister Gegham Gharibjanyan.
