PRESUMPTION OF BRAVENESS FOR POLITICAL DEALERS
- Most people may think that the leader of the United Labor Party Gurgen Arsenyan had better be in business rather than politics. In fact, Arsenyan has memorized a number of political terms and uses them successfully in his public speeches. However, on summarizing his words it becomes clear that thinking is confined to the logic of business. Nevertheless, there is no need to worry that Gurgen Arsenyan with his business-way thinking has introduced market mechanisms in the political system. First of all, he did not introduce these mechanisms. These mechanisms were already there, therefore in the Armenian political sphere Arsenyan feels like fish in water, although unlike fish Arsenyan is fond of speaking, or in other words, listening to himself. This is not a problem, however, the problem is that the appearance of the leader of the ULP in politics is good luck. It could be much worse if he appeared in the Armed Forces of Armenia, where the market gravitation is also rather strong.
What would happen in this case? A real disaster. Considering that the intellect of the leader of the United Labor Party is not inferior to the command, ostensibly in the army he would also be in the leadership, in other words, a representative of the command. What would it lead to? It is enough to follow the recent activities of Gurgen Arsenyan. First, his speech at the Pastark Club would suit a general. He said he would do everyting for the victory of the ULP candidate in Charentsavan. And hardly two days later he accepted the withdrawal of the ULP’s candidate. Imagine what would happen in the Armenian army if there was a commander who would retreat after a triumphant speech. Nothing would remain, neither positions, nor an army.
However, honoring the presumption of braveness, it is necessary to consider the reason of the ULP’s “capitulation”. According to the candidate and the leader of the political party, they did not want to kindle tension. Here is a strong reason for a retreat. The problem is, however, that two or three days before Gurgen Arsenyan had said the election campaign is normal, and there is no problem which would make speak about unfair competition. Therefore, what happened suddenly within a couple of days is a surprise. It should be noted in this connection that in the same news conference, when Arsenyan was still blowing the horn of victory not retreat, he said he is ready to give as many seats in the government to the Republican Party, the ARF Dashnaktsutyun and the Bargavach Hayastan Party as they want. “Give people as much as they want,” Arsenyan recalled the American saying. Perhaps people from the Republican Party, the ARF Dashnaktsutyun and the Bargavach Hayastan Party heard and decided to test Gurgen Arsenyan’s sincerity. They decided to find out if he is ready to give as much as they want. It became clear that yes, at least for the time being Gurgen Arsenyan is a giver. It is not known till when and what the ULP will give, and perhaps it is not so interesting to know. It is interesting in return for what the ULP gives.
In the local election in Arabkir, for instance, the ULP withdrew from the race with Hovik Shahinyan although it was singing the same march of victory at that time, and in return for this the ULP was accepted to the coalition government. It was not much, of course, but Arabkir was not big either. Ostensibly, the ULP will get something equal to Charentsavan. It should be noted that the office of the minister of environmental protection is not only equal but is also identified with Charentsavan. The present minister comes from Charentsavan. In other words, it is probable that the ULP will get this post in return for Charentsavan. We only need to wait to see if it will happen after the election or before the election. Of course, it is possible that in expecting to get more the ULP will give more things.
