DEMOGRAPHIC GROWTH REPORTED IN KARABAKH
Pavel Najaryan, the head of the Department of Migration, Refugees and Resettlement under the NKR government stated that any area in Nagorno Karabakh is being settled, including Nagorno Karabakh. “The government covers the travel expenses of the family. If the family wants to settle down in a rural area, the family gets a house and a soft loan to buy cattle and seeds, a plot of land of 2000 cu m. This year [2006] 1000 people have settled down in different regions of NKR, which is a considerable number compared with last year. I am sure that the process of resettlement has become very active. People arrive from Central Asia, different cities of Russia, Ukraine. Recently we have signed an agreement with the representative of the region of Kaliningrad. Some families from this region wished to move to live in Artsakh. We are ready to help everyone who would like to return to Artsakh and grant them privilages,” Pavel Najaryan said.
The NKR National Statistics Service reports that in 2006 2102 children were born in NKR against 2004 in 2005, 1235 people died against 1260 in 2005. In 2006 the rate of marriage totaled 827 against 751 in 2005. The rate of divorce totaled 123 against 117 in 2005.
Since January 1, 2007 a credit account is opened in Artsakhbank: 700 dollars for the third child in the family, 100 for the fourth child, 1500 for the fifth child, 2000 for the sixth and seventh child, 2500 for the eighth and ninth child, 3000 dollars for the tenth child and up.
This is the first demographic growth reported over the past few years. However, these indexes are not sufficient for the geopolitical situation in the region, where the demographic process has a deciding role.
