THE WEAK DISPLAY POWER
- It is known that the strong never display their strength. They do display it when it is necessary. Moreover, if he is also wise, he constantly tries to ascribe the display of force to others. It is also clear that the temptation to display one’s power occurs when one becomes convinced that he is gradually losing it. Or when the threat of defeat occurs in a struggle which does not involve force.
These ideas became urgent after following the parade on the anniversary of the independence. It appears that the public had an adequate attitude to it: too many suspicions occurred. The actions of the commanders of the parade and those who followed the parade were too expressively acted out. In fact, you are sure not to surprise anyone by the scale of the event on such a holiday: everything is done in accordance with the state traditions.
The question is whom this force is displayed to. It was said officially that people should see their army. There is nothing bad about it. It is bad that this idea is impossible to apply. Nobody displayed modern armament, old armament was displayed. This is also clear: why should we display our possibilites to the foreign enemy. Here the wisdom is seen: nobody fears the external foe, and there is no need to display the real power.
In that case, what were people supposed to watch? The old armament? Why? There is not an absolute answer. But everything becomes clear as soon as we assume that someone made an effort to display their strength to their own people, and other addressees are also possible. In that case there is no need to display high-level armament. Something else was displayed, namely the power of the government.
And the question occurs: why was that needed? For when it is necessary to display force to people, it may mean that the government (or someone from the government) does not trust its strength. The holiday was a good opportunity. At another time such a display of power would give rise to too many questions. Such as in 1996, after the Armenian presidential election. At that time the display of armament in the streets was perceived as a display of void power. And soon the time proved that these evaluations were true: the government soon started decaying and produced a sediment.
Today such an evaluation may not be pertinent, for formally the army was taken to the square for the people, not against the people. But the problem is that very few people believed in this formality. Such is the time. The majority did not notice the weakness of the Armenian government in this parade. Much shows this weakness today. The circumstance that recently most Armenian government officials have started demanding tenaciously facts from the public to prove the criminal accusations against them shows their weakness. They are heavily reliant on the fact that nobody will prove that the accused officials are criminals.
It appears, however, that the government officials do not believe any more that these hopes will come true. It is apparent that the high-ranking government officials no longer believe that these hopes will come true. It was felt from another display of the strength of unity of the government (awards and titles, photos, high-flown speeches about unity, etc). It is clear that there is need for such display there because there is no unity for a long time now. And there can be no unity since every official is up for one thing –the armchair of the president, which will become vacant in 2008. Occupy in order to avoid justice. Moreover, one of them has already decided that the right to the armchair of the president belongs to him. Moreover, the public especially accuses him of intended consolidation of the administrative criminal to assure that his goal will be fulfilled.
In this case, if we imagine ourselves to be these govenrment officials, it would be already difficult to imagine where and how their wishes will end. It is also difficult to imagine where the government itself is. What remains then? It is clear. The weak show off their power to everyone. Therefore we may agree that the display of the military force on September 21 was intended to everyone who wants to get hold of the post of president of Armenia rather than the public. In other words, the right to order the servicemen remains with one of the pretenders. Apparently, the possibilities of the “current support of the government”, the team of officials and businessmen gathered around the Republican Party are through. The right of the “sole heir of the throne” was not given to them. Considering that if developments follow this path, and the right to command the Armenian servicemen will be taken away from them, one has only to think where the wishes of these people, who are accused of mortal sins by the public, will lead the young Armenian state.
