AN ATTEMPT OF A COUP D'ÉTAT
- Spokesman For ARFD Spartak Seyranyan Believes

These people haven’t changed
“What happened on March 1-2 seemed to have been excluded in Armenia’s political life: that is - the method of solving political issues by force. The handwriting that we have seen 10 years back is clearly visible 10 years after.
Those who used to state in 1996 that even if Vazgen Manukyan wins by 100% votes he would not be a President, today the same people say: “no matter how many votes you obtain, no matter you have been elected or not, we will take power at any cost.” The same way, 10 years back they were ready to keep power at any price, at present these people are ready to take power with the same principle.
With the same method, they are ready to use the people’s fair disapproval. The people who were participating in those meetings motivated by their fair dissatisfaction, who used to think that LTP is the only person to solve these problems must have been deeply disappointed. Why? Because life showed that LTP didn’t have any intentions to solve their problems. He was simply speaking about these problems, but he was not the one to solve them. Otherwise he had all the opportunities to solve these issues by political ways.
Judge yourselves: he had obtained 20% votes. Couldn’t he give political direction to this 20% votes? Had he felt responsible for this 20% he would have chosen the way of political procedures, especially because he received the proposal of a political dialogue. He could have listed the complaints of his electorate and as a leader he could have started a dialogue with the authorities, thus he could have real opportunities to solve these problems.
We should confess that he managed to become a factor in Armenia’s political life, which must have been considered by the authorities. But life showed that he is far not interested in the political agenda neither the ballots of those who voted for him.
By the way it’s worth mentioning that LTP has never been interested in political ways of solving issues. What happened was the result of a well-programmed policy. The things that he used to do during those 10 days, would have led only to what it led. He did what he did. And what happened was the logical continuation of his activity. And the same way, as before, as he has never been really interested in his voters, at the moment he is not interested in the victims. That is why the same way as he refused to apologize for what he did 10 years back, at the moment he over again refuses to apologize for what happened these days. Why? Because he didn’t make any mistake. Because this is exactly what he wanted to do. He thinks that whatever he did was right and good.
Had he felt responsible
Had he felt responsible for these people he would have been next to those who have voted for him. He would try to control them. And the most immoral thing is that in his interview given to the foreign journalists he announced that he is absolutely not responsible for the standoff on March 1-2. So who is responsible, after all? Those 20 year-old boys? But the same morning he announced that he is the only responsible for what has happened and he proposed to arrest him. How should we understand this?
Unfortunately I must remind you that LTP has always been like this. This is his methodology. He has always owned the laurels of the victories, though he had little participation in those victories. And he has always blamed others for his failings. Failings that has been exclusively his own. During the whole campaign, especially during the last 10 days he clearly demonstrated that he was knowingly leading to instability. He was intentionally trying to create an atmosphere of anarchy in the country. Trying to dismantle the state machinery. It was an obvious attempt of a coup d'état.
From Yerevan to provinces
In his interview given to foreign journalists LTP announced that he is going to continue his struggle but this time in the provinces. This means he is going to “export” the things that happened in Yerevan to the provinces. Which means this man is not satisfied with what has happened.
From this we can draw the following conclusion. LTP didn’t have any intention to become a President. His goals have nothing to do with politics. His objective was to bring Armenia to this state - instability. And he appealed to the Constitutional Court simply to extend the political process.
It was a program, what happened was to happen
Many candidates proposed a political dialogue. Including ARFD presidential candidate Vahan Hovhannisyan. But if a political figure refuses to meet the Catholicos of all Armenians, how can he accept the proposals made by the political figures. In my view whatever measures the authorities took, what happened was to happen because it has been previously planned. If not today then any other day.
Today a fair assessment must be given to what happened. I share the opinion that - had the authorities given a political assessment to the former administration they would never become this much impudent.
As regards the present assessment, yes, it must be given, firstly by the society. First of all people must estimate it, so that tomorrow these people won’t appear again, like wolves masked with the fur of a lamb.
