PEOPLE SAY “NO” TO EXTREMISM
- At our request, Spokesman for the pre-election headquarter belonging to presidential candidate, Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan, Edward Sharmazanov comments on the process of the voting, “mass falsifications, violence and bribes”.
“Firstly I must say that I have personally visited many precincts of the Republic, in Lory province, Alaverdy, and town Vanadsor, around 20 precinct centers, including Yerevan. As Serge Sargsyan’s confidant I have spoken with the members of the electoral committees, observers and the confidants of other candidates and I can definitely record that I haven’t heard any complaints regarding serious breaches.
They simply spoke about certain technical problems during the voting process, which I’m sure can’t influence the election returns.
As for the provocations, in the beginning they spread information saying that allegedly S. Sargsyan’s representatives have beaten Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s supporters. Our pre-election headquarter qualified this information as a provocation against our candidate.
Moreover we received alarm calls from many precincts, particularly from Gyumry and Vanadsor, saying that Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s supporters are instigating undesirable confrontations. In 8/21 precinct in Malatya-Sebastya community 4-5 members of Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s headquarter have beaten the Head of the Committee Hrach Petrosyan. We have received complaints from 31/65 precinct, where Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s confidant has threatened the members of the electoral committee.
In Gyumry, leader of party “Democratic Motherland” Petros Makeyan has broken into 34/06 precinct, abused and threatened the members of the committee. In 30/22 precinct Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s confidant Sofia Kalantaryan was especially active. She tried to hinder the regular working process of the committee due to which she was dismissed from the precinct center.”
“But the electronic mass media belonging to Levon Ter-Petrosyan are overflowed with terrifying stories about “violence, mass falsifications and election bribes?”
“I don’t take similar “news” seriously, because the goal of this people is not winning the elections but destabilizing the situation and fishing in troubled waters.
How can you believe someone who declares that he will win at the first stage and with 99% votes? I highly appreciate Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s modesty: he could say 100%. I don’t think any citizen of Armenia will take seriously the anomalous affectations of these people.
Or, one or two hours before the end of the elections they publish the results of their personal “exit poll”, which is a violation of the Legislation of Armenia: before the end of the elections no one has the right to publish the results of the “exit poll”, because it is considered an illegal advocacy.
And Nikol Pashinyan’s last announcement, where he calls on the people to show civil disobedience, testifies to the misbalanced psychological state of Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s team-members. We have already announced that neither Nikol Pashinyan nor the Spokesman for LTP’s headquarter will be able to destabilize the situation in the country.
The election returns haven’t yet been summarized, but, our people, beyond a shadow of a doubt, will say “no” to extremism. Besides that we also hope that there will be sensible people in Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s team, who will refuse to satisfy their personal ambitions at any cost.”
“Do you think the law enforcement agencies are operative in recording the alarm calls about the election breaches?”
“I think yes. The General Prosecutor’s and the police are quite operative. Of course we don’t say that the elections were perfect. Even in the most democratic countries elections are not perfect. There will always be those who will try to breach the law to abuse their competencies, but who said that all these people are from Serge Sargsyan’s team.
Moreover, it is also not excluded that some people can propose bribes on Serge Sargsyan’s behalf, to discredit him. But we have already proved with our course of action that we do our best to hold proper elections, in compliance with the Electoral Code of Armenia and the standards of democracy.
