The forthcoming presidential elections are crucial for our statehood. Tightened political atmosphere, social polarization is quite natural and inescapable during any elections, but it is intolerable when the pre-election campaign goes beyond the limits of civilized political behavior.
Unfortunately we must record that the pre-election campaign in Armenia is of the before mentioned character. The unhealthy manifestations noticed at the beginning of the campaign are becoming worse. The atmosphere of intolerance implanted in the society, the violation of the primitive norms of political campaign, the insults in the address of this or that candidate, the open reckoning appeals or threats, the enmity propagated in the society have reached a very dangerous level.
It is a green light for the non-political elements and the interference of the foreign powers, which is fraught with serious consequences.
Being cognizant of the danger of this situation, we condemn any kind of unhealthy campaigning.
We appeal to all the political powers to meet the norms of political ethics. To appear exclusively with ideological-program based positions and to avoid any attempts of provocations.
We declare that we will not allow putting to danger the country’s stability and the future of our independent statehood.
We announce with responsibility that the only way to avoid the before mentioned situation is to exclude any types of election breaches and falsehood and to hold fair and transparent elections.
