WE PROMISE WHAT WE CAN DO
- Proceeding with his visits to the marzes (provinces), Prime Minister and presidential candidate SERGE SARGYSAN yesterday had a meeting in the marz of Lori

The square of the town of Spitak was overcrowded with voters. Addressing his words to the local people, S. Sargsyan mentioned, “the past months following the elections showed that it is possible to solve many problems in a short period of time as well. We also proved definitely that we are able to keep our promise, and we will not disappoint the people. You yourselves were the eyewitness of the gasification work, the road building and the housing-construction activities. And now I assure you again that after receiving the assertion of your support we’ll work with much greater efforts.”
The Prime Minister confessed that there are still many problems to solve, and this stage has only marked the beginning of their solution. The 20th anniversary of the disastrous earthquake is drawing near. Under the President’s Decree a special committee has been set up which, along with other tasks, is to reveal all the problems existing in the disaster zone. One of the programs envisages construction activities costing 13 billion Dollars, and housing-construction is not included there.
Unfortunately, 6000 families that suffered from the disaster are still homeless now. That’s true. I assure you that during the month of March each of them will definitely know when he will receive his due amount of money. And in the course of the coming 4 years these problems will be finally resolved. But it doesn’t mean that we’ll have accomplished our tasks by this, because we’ll continue improving life by opening new workplaces, showing comprehensive support to the rural people and providing subsidies,” Serge Sargsyan assured.
At the same time, the Prime Minister announced that unlike the other candidates, he wasn’t going to squander unrealistic promises and increase the salaries by 20 or 50 times. “We promise what we can do and are responsible for all our words. The important thing is for all of us to realize that the country’s future depends on our choice. If we are unable to hold fair elections, the elected president cannot fulfill his promises, because he cannot be fair. No problem is ever resolved by mere desire.”
He next meeting took place in the town of Vanadzor. The inhabitants of Gougark, Shahoumyan, Tashir, Fioletovo and the other neighboring populated areas had come to express their support for the candidate.
The RPA Chairman noted that during the past days of the campaign all the candidates and those delivering speeches on their behalf had expressed their desires, but few of them had clarified in what way they were going to realize all that.
“I am sure that you have also been inspired with negative emotions, because some candidates prefer to display their spite and throw mud at everything they see, rather than speak about their programs and the country’s future. I want you to patiently recall Benjamin Franklin’s words saying, ‘everything begins with spite and ends with shame’. I believe that the people who have lost their conscience, who cast slurs upon our society, will be ashamed of themselves at the end. They will also realize that it is impossible to come to power in that way; it is impossible to play with the lives of the people,” the RPA Chairman underscored.
S. Sargsyan assured that he preferred the democratic way of state building, when a candidate asks for the people’s votes, receives their trust and does not admit of the totalitarian form of governance, ‘When a person looks down on the people and says, ‘if you ask and beg me to govern you, I will come and govern.’ I have come here and ask for your vote since I am sure that receiving support from all of you, I will be able to build a better Armenia.”
