ARMENIAN – RUSSIAN RELATIONS BECOME STRONGER
- Head of the Government of Russian Federation Victor Zubkov is on two-days official visit in Armenia.

Yesterday morning V. Zubkov and Armenian Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan had a tête-à-tête, during which they summed up the results of the arrangements they made during their last meeting in Moscow in 2007. Serge Sargsyan assured the visit of the Head of RF Government will contribute to the development of Armenian Russian relations and will strengthen the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
During the tête-à-tête Victor Zubkov conveyed the best regards of the RA President Vladimir Putin to Serge Sargsyan and confirmed that there is a prospect for the progress of Armenian-Russian cooperation, in all the spheres.
After the negotiations between the extended staff of the delegations Victor Zubkov and Serge Sargsyan met the journalists.
Armenian Prime Minister said, during the tête-à-tête and during the negotiation between the delegations it has been recorded that a large-scale work has already been implemented and it was indispensable to sum up the results. “During the previous years the volume of trade-circulation has grown by 65% and crossed the limit of 700 million dollars. Meanwhile we confessed that the potential of our cooperation is much more and we have all the opportunities to surpass the volumes of 1 billion dollars’ commodity circulation.”
Serge Sargsyan said the active investment of Russian capital has perceptibly grown, and the accumulative volumes are more than 1 billion dollars.
They didn’t pass round the obstacles against Armenian-Russian cooperation. “The most important condition, in this sense, is the problem of transportation communication, because this component hinders the development of cooperation between our countries. In my view the concession-agreement on Russia’s control over Armenian railway will greatly contribute to the solution of this conflict. I strongly believe that the joint exploitation of the railway will greatly amplify the volume of commodity circulation between the two countries. Sochy is going to become the capital of Winter Olympic Games and there is a necessity of a huge constructive work there. Armenia has a big amount of construction materials. So after the exploitation of the railway we can satisfy Russian demand, thus multiplying commodity circulation.”
Victor Zubkov stressed the importance of the signed bilateral agreement. He said it would improve trade cooperation and will develop the cooperation in the spheres of information technologies and communication.
“I especially consider significant Armenia’s participation in Russian-Kazakhstan international program. With the declaration exchanged today Armenia became a member of the International Center of Uranium Enrichment. Firstly we came to an agreement on developing Armenian nuclear power. The tête-à-tête with my partner Serge Sargsyan was not only about general interests but I must mention that it was a sincere conversation, ” Head of RF Government underscored.
Victor Zubkov was happy to mention that Russian Federation is Armenia’s main economic partner and that there are more and more opportunities to increase the trade circulation between the two countries. “Russia is also the principle foreign investor in Armenia. And it is a serious argument to develop our trade and economic cooperation, especially because our joint investment programs have always been a success. This is a consequence of the legislative domain and the created favorable conditions for investments in Armenia. It is not accidental that we capture new sphere of cooperation: nuclear energy, communication, etc.
The exploitation of the railway and the regulation of Caucasus-Potty ferry-transportation will essentially contribute to our trade-economic cooperation. Armenian construction materials have already been used in Russia and proved their competitiveness. The social consequences of our cooperation are also evident.”
Victor Zubkov assured that in future Armenian-Russian relations would become stronger and more profound, because the principle guideline of the two countries is the strategic cooperation.
Touching upon the issue of the industrial and scientific-industrial enterprises, given to RF according to the agreement “Property for Debt” RF Prime Minister clarified: “ At present we are at the stage of re-forming these enterprises and including them in one scientific-industrial complex, which will come to an end in the coming six months. I assure you we will maintain all the thematic and production directions of those scientific institutions. Now we are in the process of making an inventory of the whole complex. And during the second six months, when the time will come to set the enterprises working, private investors will be involved. In the near future you will eyewitness a noticeable progress.”
