NO REASON FOR CEC TO WORRY

More than half of the 28 days of the pre-election campaign is over. Yesterday Chairman of the Central Electoral Committee Garegin Azaryan convened a press conference to sum up the already implemented work, as well as to inform about the preparation and the main process of the forthcoming presidential elections.

CEC Chairman informed that all the arrangements prescribed by the schedule have been implemented on time, no deviation have been recorded. “We haven’t received any letter-complaints regarding the before mentioned. We implement all the arrangements in accordance with the Electoral Code and we fulfill all the requirements. The election lists have been fixed in all the 1923 precincts. I appeal to all the voters not to avoid visiting their precincts before February 19 and make sure they are included in the election lists. If they find any failings they must appeal to the Head of the community, the police or electoral committees.
G. Azaryan said the speculations in different Mass Media regarding the secrecy of the voting are baseless: “I’m completely authorized to declare that voting cabins are in complete conformity with all the international standards and provide the secrecy of the elections. No reason to worry.”
G. Azaryan also reminded that the Electoral Code requires from all the presidential candidates to submit reports about their expenses in ten days after the official launch of the campaign, then he underscored that the picture, in this sense, is satisfactory. “Arthur Baghdasaryan and Tigran Karapetyan have submitted their reports one day before the term prescribed, Levon Ter-Petrosyan – one day later, Aram Harutyunyan – only today, and Vazgen Manukyan and Arman Melikyan haven’t yet submitted any report.
Only Artashes Geghamyan, Serge Sargsyan and Vahan Hovhannisyan have submitted their reports in the terms prescribed by the Electoral Code.
Before January 31 the biggest pre-election fund has been formed by Serge Sargsyan – 69 million 550 thousand drams, from which 26 million 285 thousand has been spent.
Vahan Hovhannisyan entered 45 million 500 thousand drams to the pre - election fund and almost the whole amount has been spent.
From the 21 million 960 thousand drams of Arthur Baghdasaryan’s pre-election fund 20 thousand hasn’t been used, 16 million 286 thousand 500 drams has been entered in Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s account, from which 14 million 5 thousand has been spent, 14 million 600 thousand – in Artashes Geghamyan’s pre-election fund, from which 236 thousand is left, 2 million 412 thousand has been entered in Vazgen Manukyan’s pre-election budget, from which 1 million 398 thousand 733 has been spent. Tigran Karapetyan has allocated 600 thousand drams for his pre-election campaign, from which 500 000 has already been used.
Even though Aram Harutyunyan’s campaigning means are modest – 190 thousand drams, but not the most modest, because Arman Melikyan's pre-election fund has, from the beginning, been empty.
CEC Chairman informed us that only 13 letter-complaints have been submitted to the CEC. “They are mainly about the order of campaigning. Three people have submitted those complaints, Ruben Torosyan – 9 applications, Artak Zeynalyan – 2 applications and one application we have received today from Alexander Arzumanyan, where allegedly 21 cases of election breaches have been found before January 21. We will touch upon the letter submitted by Ruben Torosyan on February 9, when during the extraordinary session we will discuss and confirm the model of the ballot paper.”
Garegin Azaryan also informed us that “Tigran Mets” company would publish all the materials connected with the election process. The latter has won the competition, announced in a manner prescribed by the law.
In response to the question of the correspondent of “Hayots Ashkharh” daily CEC Chairman informed that despite the announcements appeared in press, none of the registered candidates have submitted any official application to the CEC regarding the withdrawal of their candidacy.
We should remind you that the deadline of submitting applications regarding the withdrawal of candidacy is February 9.
