- In response to our question member of RPA Parliamentary Faction, Chairman of “Artsakh” Compatriot Union Hamlet Harutyunyan touches upon the tactics of blackmail, chosen by certain candidates during the presidential campaign.
“The process of the campaign is normal, in general, in compliance with the letter of the law. But unfortunately the campaign is sometimes accompanied by the manifestation of intolerance, which is not proper to our country and our national interests. The rage of power has become the focus of some candidates, which includes very dangerous tendencies. It doesn’t do credit to our people.
If the political power is guided by the appeals of retaliation, this means their goal is to take their vengeance on not only certain persons but also the people. Because even if this revenge is directed against an individual, it is actually a challenge against society, which once refused him.
For his return he owes himself and his small surrounding which obliged him to return to politics.
In his program-based speeches, he promises, you can say, a political amnesty to certain social groups or individuals. This is a political trick, he hints to this or that social class, than he turns to the other ones and when he fails, he immediately includes them in his black list.”
”During his recent tour around the provinces the former President develops the famous thesis of
“Mongol-Tatar khan”, declaring that “these people”, that is to say the government in power, are “nomads” and like “nomadic-invaders they have “privatized” the history of the third Republic and even the victory in Artsakh.”
“I have no idea what L. Ter-Petrosyan means. If he means that Karabakh people are nomads, then as a historian I must say that the most native part of Eastern Armenia is Karabakh and none of them was born in Arabic deserts. So we can’t call them Tatars or representatives of nomadic tribes.
If the conversation is about the political processes during the recent 15-20 years, in my view none can deny their participation in the accomplishment of the state. But I don’t remember any case when Robert Kocharyan or Serge Sargsyan have ascribed to themselves the success recorded in the sphere of state building. Moreover during the recent 10 years they have never uttered any bad word in the address of the first President, simply because they respect the state symbols.
As regards Artsakh liberation war, both Robert Kocharyan and Serge Sargsyan and especially Samvel Babayan have never “privatized” Artsakh victory. But if the main battles were in Karabakh, why shouldn’t we say that one of the victors was the Chairman of NKR Defense Committee and the other was the Defense Minister, whom else should we ascribe the laurel of the victory. But I must repeat they have never underestimated the role of the first President as a Chief Commander.”
“Isn’t it strange that the group of locusts that in 90-ie, during their years of power, destroyed everything, at present call the government in power “nomads”?”
“Levon Ter-Petrosyan is quite conscious of what he is doing. Speaking about the “nomads” he intends to thrust a wedge between Armenia and Karabakh, after all the principal playing card of the pro-Azerbaijani solution of Artsakh issue is creating a barrier between the two sectors of Armenia. By saying “nomads” he is trying to intensify this barrier. But people are usually wiser than this is or that individual and will never yield to such tendencies.
But what the worst thing is, that in our history because of black PR we have lost our statehood and been defeated in the liberation war. We don’t have to go very far to prove this; in the beginning of the 18th century in the years of Davit Bek’s and Mkhitar Sparapet’s power the only reason of our defeat was that the so called noble class couldn’t cope with Mkhitar Sparapet’s “provincial” origins and overlooking his experience and his qualities – braveness, devotion, and self-sacrifice, by speculating his “provincial origins” he managed to set up a group of traitors and the national-liberation movement fell a victim to that black PR.
