THE PROVOCATIONS OF THE ARMENIAN PAN-NATIONAL MOVEMENT GAIN NEW MOMENTUM
- Shooting fired at S. Sargsyan’s pre-election headquarters
As informed by the Web site of the General Prosecutor’s Office, on February 1, 10:20 a.m. S. Aleksanyan, person in charge for S. Sargsyan’s pre-election headquarters, gave an alarm call to the Police Department of Nor Nork District and informed that unknown individuals had released two shootings in the direction of S. Sargsyan’s pre-election headquarters situated in 12 Mar Str., Nor Nork 5th district.
The investigative group arriving at the scene of action found out that on the night of February 1, around 02-03 a.m., unknown individuals had released two gunshots towards S. Sargsyan’s pre-election headquarters, breaking two windows.
As a result of the examination of the scene of action, two polyethylene elements of cartridge case were discovered at a distance of a few meters from the entrance of the headquarters. The elements of cartridge case were confiscated.
On February 1, 2008 the Investigative Department of Nor Nork Police instituted a criminal proceeding in connection with the case.
On February 1, S. Aleksanyan gave the second alarm call, saying that a shooting had been released in the direction of the hairdressing salon, which was situated a floor above S. Sargsyan’s headquarters located on the ground floor of building 14, Str. Mikoyan. As a result of the gunshot, the window was broken.
The investigative group arriving at the scene of action found out that on the night of February 1, around 02-03 a.m., unknown individuals had released a gunshot. The gunshot directed at the window of the hairdressing salon broke the glass of the window. As a result of the examination of the scene of action, one polyethylene element of a cartridge case was found.
On February 1, 2008 the Investigative Department of Nor Nork Police instituted a criminal proceeding in connection with the case.
Let’s add that the discovery of the polyethylene elements of cartridge case leads to the assumption that in both cases a shotgun was used. This assumption of ours was later confirmed. Let’s note at the same time that the use of a shotgun means that the perpetrator or perpetrators of the provocation find it senseless to use more serious weapons purely with the purpose of creating an atmosphere of fear or provoking actions in return. And we have no doubts as to the existence of serious weapons.
Considering that in both cases the area (Nor Nork), the time of the shooting (02-03 a.m.), the type of the weapon used (a shotgun) and the style of the crime are the same, we have almost no doubt that they were ordered or committed by the same individual(s).
One February 1, around 11 a.m. citizen Souren Manoukyan reported to the Police Department of the town of Vanadzor that on the same day around 02.20 a.m. unknown individuals had used a bottle containing fuel to open fire on the entrance stairs of presidential candidate Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s headquarters (situated in Str. Tigran Mets 29/11, Vanadzor). No material damage was caused.
Let’s note that like the previous 2 cases, this incident also occurred around 02-03 a.m. On these grounds, we can arrive at the conclusion that none of them could be a strike back to the other. Therefore, considering that all the above-mentioned crimes were committed around the same hours, we have almost no doubt that they were planned and ordered by the same force, individual or individuals.
As to who perpetrated or made orders for the thrice-repeated provocation which occurred on the night of February 1, it is a different matter. This is a task to be clarified by the law enforcement agencies; although, considering the style of Ter-Petrosyan’s team, we believe that society is already starting to realize everything.
