ARMENIA TO BECOME A WELFARE COUNTRY AS A RESULT OF PAINSTAKING WORK
- Continuing the pre-election campaign, Prime Minister and presidential candidate SERGE SARGSYAN yesterday visited the marz of Aragatsotn
S. Sargsyan first of all expressed his gratitude to the more than 7 thousand citizens gathered in the square of Ashtarak for attending the meeting in conditions of the incessant rainfall. Addressing his words to the people of Ashtarak, the presidential candidate said,
“I request your vote of confidence, because I need everybody’s support for implementing my programs. We also requested your vote during the parliamentary campaign, for getting the opportunity to form a strong government enabling us to solve the problems faced by the people and the state. And it was also due to your vote of confidence that we were able to submit to the National Assembly’s discussion essentially different and much higher obligations, as well as a Draft State Budget implying higher expenditures.
I remind you about this fact so as you will be able to compare the authorities which enjoy the people’s trust and pursue the goal of ensuring the country’s welfare with the forces which have difficulty in forming authorities and governments and feel constrained in all their actions.”
The RPA Chairman informed that due to the programs they had submitted after the parliamentary elections the volumes of investments exceeded 800 million Drams only in the town of Ashtarak. “If, after the May elections, we hadn’t felt confident, we wouldn’t have been able to initiate such a large-scale reform program. And now I ask for your support, which will enable the newly-elected President of Armenia to be strong and independent of anyone and capable of solving all the other problems with your help.”

- 1924 Adoption of the First Constitution of the USSR.
- 1931 Birth of doctor, pharmacologist and Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Emil Gabrielyan in Ashtarak. He is presently working on the cure for AIDS as the leader of the group that has discovered the Armenicum drug.
- 1931 Birth of artist Rafael Atoyan in Leninakan (currently Gyoomree).
- 1965 Death of writer Aharon Tsatoorian. He was born in 1886.
